Type A ladder cage is a common type of cage in the cage raising mode of laying hens. It is named because the cage body is arranged in the shape of "A" ladder, which is suitable for large-scale laying hens breeding.
Structural features
- Staircase placement: The cage consists of upper, middle and lower layers (commonly 3-4 layers). The upper cage is mistakenly opened a certain distance back to form a staircase, so as to avoid the upper chicken manure falling directly into the lower cage, reducing pollution.
- Cage composition: Each single cage is usually composed of front net, back net, side net, bottom net and top net. The front net has a feeding mouth and drinking water device interface, and the bottom net is tilted (with a tilt of about 7-10 °) to facilitate the rolling of eggs into the egg pool.
- Supporting facilities: Under each layer of cage, there are corresponding egg-gathering troughs (for collecting eggs), dung boards or dung strips (for cleaning chicken dung), and some of them also support a feed line and water line to automate feeding and drinking water.
- Space layout: The single cage size is usually 40-50 cm long, 30-35 cm wide and 35-40 cm high, which can accommodate 3-4 egg birds, with reasonable spacing of layers to ensure that each layer of chicken has good ventilation and light.

Core strengths
High space utilization
The multi-storey staircase design makes full use of the vertical space of the chicken coop, which can raise more egg hens under the same area, and is suitable for farms with tight land resources.
Good sanitary conditions
The stepping structure reduces the pollution of the upper layer of feces to the lower layer, and the independent removal system facilitates centralized removal of feces and reduces the risk of disease transmission.
Easy operation
The cage is arranged in a neat manner, the feeding mouth and egg collection trough are located in a unified position, and it is convenient to manually or mechanically feed, pick eggs, and observe the status of the flock.
High adaptability
It is suitable for egglaying hens of different day ages (from breeding hens to egglaying hen), and the cage material is mostly hot galvanized metal, which is resistant to corrosion and has a long service life (generally up to 10 years).
Applicable scenarios
It is mainly suitable for medium-sized egg farms and is especially suitable in scenarios where high density farming, space saving and hygiene management are desired. Compared with the flat farming model, the amount of feeding and egg production of egg hens can be more precisely controlled, making it easy to refine management.
Warnings about use
Density Control
Raise strictly according to the capacity of a single cage to avoid overcrowding (such as guaranteeing at least 0.04-0.05 square meters of space per egglet), otherwise it will affect egg production rate and the health of the flock.
Regular Maintenance
Check the cage for deformation and whether the nets are loose, and repair them promptly to avoid injury to the hens;Remove residual eggs and debris from the eggpool to prevent blockage.
Environmental Adaptation
Ensure that the chicken coop is well ventilated to avoid excessive temperatures in the upper cage due to poor air circulation;Coupled with the light system, the chickens are guaranteed adequate light at each layer.
The A-type ladder layer cage is a widely used cage type in the large-scale breeding of layers, which balances the breeding density, health management and operation convenience through scientific structural design.
